Second can agreement | District map
If you are a resident of the Salt Lake County Sanitation District, you will receive one black garbage can for your weekly waste disposal. Additional cans are available for $15 per month with a minimum six month commitment. The homeowner is required to sign a rental agreement form (32kb pdf) and prepay the first six month fee of $90. We will repair or replace your can at no cost.
Setting up your garbage collection
If you are moving into an existing home your garbage and recycle collection service will transfer to your name when you close on your home. If you are moving into a newly built home call us when you have your occupancy permit to set up your services. Your billing is set up automatically on your property tax notice.

If you live on a private road within the District you may qualify for our services. Please check the minimum requirements for a private road. Note: 100% of residents on a private road must agree to meet the requirements before service can begin. You can request service for a private road by email or phone.
Customer tips
- Place your can at the curb or nearest collection point by 7:00 am. Cans must be brought in within 24 hours.
- Use the 4 ft rule: place your cans at least 4 feet from other cans, mailboxes, trees, fences, cars, and any other object.
- Avoid placing your cans under trees or basketball standards.
- Please don’t put hot ashes in your can!
- Please don’t overload your can. Items should not stick out above the top more than a couple of inches.
