Waste Removal
Home composting
We encourage home composting as a way of diverting green waste (leaves, branches, and yard trimmings) from the landfill. Grass clippings actually assist with decomposition in the landfill and increase methane, which is turned into power for homes. Keeping bulky organic material out of the landfill helps save valuable landfill space and helps us reduce the amount of time our trucks are on the roads, which helps everyone's air quality and the environment.
Salt Lake Valley Landfill and TransJordan Landfill have composting and mulch operations. Residents can purchase high-quality compost from either location. If you have the space, you can make your own compost and dramatically improve your home garden.
